STRENGTHENING SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT

STRENGTHENING SPIRITUAL NOURISHMENT

Spiritual support and moral guidance remain essential in nurturing disciplined, resilient, and values-driven military personnel. Places of worship within military establishments provide service members and their families with opportunities for reflection, encouragement, and spiritual growth, helping to strengthen unity, emotional wellbeing, and ethical conduct. By supporting faith-based initiatives, the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) continues to promote holistic welfare and reinforce the moral foundation that underpins professional military service.

Demonstrating this commitment, St Luke Catholic Church at Gilgil Garrison, Nakuru County,  was consecrated on Sunday, 17 May 2026, marking a significant milestone for the Catholic faithful within the Garrison community.

The occasion was presided over by the Bishop of the Military Ordinariate of Kenya, Rt. Rev. Wallace Ng’ang’a, who led the consecration of the church and altar during a solemn liturgical celebration attended by clergy, servicemen and women, their families, and Christian faithful.

In his homily, Bishop Ng’ang’a described the occasion as a rare and historic celebration coinciding with the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord. He noted that the consecration of a church signifies the setting a part of a sacred place solely for prayer and divine worship. He encouraged Christians to remain steadfast in faith, service, and sacrifice despite life’s challenges, while also thanking the KDF leadership and the Ministry of Defence for supporting the construction of the church.

In his remarks, Gilgil Garrison Commander, Brigadier Edward Nyamao, described the consecration as a significant milestone for the barracks community, noting that places of worship help promote moral values, spiritual resilience, and unity among soldiers and their families.

The Chief of Training at Headquarters Kenya Army, Brigadier Joel Cherutich, commended the collaborative efforts that led to the completion of the church, observing that spiritual wellbeing plays an important role in nurturing disciplined and values-driven personnel within the Kenya Defence Forces.

The consecration reaffirmed the importance of faith, unity, and moral values in strengthening the welfare and spiritual resilience of the military community.
