AUSSOM–KDF MUSLIM TROOPS HOST LUNCHEON FOR SLFPU COUNTERPARTS IN KISMAYO

Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) Muslim troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) recently hosted a luncheon at the Kismayo Main Operating Base (MOB) for their Muslim counterparts from the Sierra Leone Formed Police Unit Contingent VI (SLFPU VI).

The event, presided over by Colonel Samson Kenga of the KDF, was organized to welcome the newly deployed SLFPU VI contingent and strengthen camaraderie among Muslim personnel. It also aimed to foster a deeper spiritual connection during the ongoing peace support mission.

Colonel Kenga urged troops from both contingents to prioritize their spiritual growth, noting that it provides an essential support system that sustains mental and emotional well-being in demanding operational environments. “Spiritual strength gives you balance and clarity when the mission demands the most from you,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Galgalo Liban of the KDF encouraged the soldiers to continue nurturing a strong sense of community grounded in Islamic teachings. He emphasized that spiritual nourishment promotes ethical conduct and discipline—values that are critical to the success of their duties and the broader AUSSOM mission.

SLFPU VI Deputy Imam, Dr. Yahya Munu, expressed gratitude to the KDF contingent for the warm reception and reaffirmed SLFPU’s commitment to strengthening ties among troops working together for lasting peace and security in Somalia.

The luncheon underscores AUSSOM’s broader commitment to fostering cohesion among troop-contributing countries. It provided space for meaningful interaction, shared perspectives, and the reinforcement of unity among partners working toward a common mission.
