Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed at Kismayo New Airport and serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), on 15 August 2025 conducted a medical camp (MEDICAP) at Yaaqa Birta village in the outskirts of Kismayo.
KDF Medical personnel from Kismayo Level 1 hospital offered treatment to locals of the village. Over 100 residents received free medical consultations and treatments for various ailments, with an emphasis on providing care to vulnerable groups such as women, the aged and children.
Community members expressed appreciation for the support, noting that access to medical services in the area is limited. The outreach not only offered much-needed healthcare but also created an opportunity for direct interaction between the troops and the residents, helping to strengthen trust and cooperation.
Such CIMIC initiatives align with the AUSSOM mandate to support Somali security forces, protect civilians, and contribute to stabilization and state-building efforts. By addressing local needs beyond security, KDF-AUSSOM troops continue to demonstrate their commitment to fostering stability and improving the quality of life for communities within their area of operations.
