In the fight against violent extremism, one of the most powerful weapons is not carried on the battlefield. It is found on the pages of a book.
Through a Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) initiative, troops deployed under Operation Amani Boni (OAB) in partnership with the US Army Civil Affairs team participated in donation of bookshelves to Safirisi Primary School in Lamu, giving hundreds of learners a safe and organized place to store and access educational materials. The shelves will preserve books, promote a culture of reading, and ensure that knowledge remains within the reach of every child.
In regions where terrorist groups seek to exploit ignorance and vulnerable youth, education serves as a powerful shield. Every book preserved, every child encouraged to read, and every lesson learned strengthens resilience against extremist influence by nurturing informed, confident, and responsible citizens.
Receiving the donation, the Head Teacher of Safirisi Primary School expressed gratitude noting that the bookshelves would significantly improve the school’s learning environment. She said the shelves would protect valuable learning materials from damage, make books more accessible to pupils, and inspire learners to develop a stronger reading culture. She added that the support would have a lasting impact on the academic growth of the school and the future of its learners.
