Communities thrive when security efforts are complemented by meaningful engagement that addresses everyday needs, strengthens mutual trust and reinforces the partnership between peace support forces and the people they serve.
Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) conducted a Key Leadership Engagement (KLE) and Civil Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activity at Bilis Qooqani Town.
Led by personnel from TABDA Temporary Operating Base (TOB), the engagement brought together local elders, medical personnel and community members with the aim of strengthening cooperation, enhancing civil military relations and addressing immediate humanitarian needs.
As part of the outreach, KDF medical personnel conducted a free medical camp that benefited 116 residents. Patients received treatment for common ailments while health education was provided to promote healthier lifestyles and disease prevention within the community.
In addition, clean water was distributed to 20 households, two mosques and one school, providing much needed relief to residents facing persistent water shortages.
During the engagement, KDF personnel encouraged community leaders and residents to continue working closely with the Temporary Operating Base through sustained cooperation and information sharing in support of peace and security efforts.
The activity reflects AUSSOM’s commitment to complementing security operations with people centred initiatives that strengthen community resilience, foster confidence between local populations and security forces and create an environment where lasting peace and stability can take root across Somalia.
