The Defence Principal Secretary, Dr. Patrick Mariru, today, chaired a high-level meeting to review progress on ongoing construction at Bomas International Convention Complex (BICC), a landmark project set to transform Kenya’s tourism and economic landscape.
Construction of the complex commenced in March 2025 under the supervision of the Ministry of Defence through the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), underscoring the military’s contribution to national development.
The BICC is envisioned as a multi-faceted hub featuring an 11,000-seat convention centre, a sports and recreation zone, a hotel, and cultural facilities. Once complete, it is expected to enhance Kenya’s profile in conferencing, recreation, culture, and wildlife tourism, while generating wealth and creating employment opportunities.
The meeting was attended by Principal Secretaries Mr. Gitonga Mugambi (Forestry) and Mr. Joseph Motari (Social Protection & Senior Citizens Affairs). The KDF delegation included Brigadier Joseph Mutua, Commander of the Construction Engineering Brigade, and Brigadier Titus Sokobe, Chief of Special Projects. The Bomas of Kenya Board was represented by Chairperson Hon. Jane Kiptoo Chebaibai and Ag. CEO Jimmy Okidiangi, alongside other senior government and military officials.
