DEPUTY ARMY COMMANDER VISITS TROOPS

The Deputy Army Commander, Major General Mohamed Hassan, visited Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed in Somalia under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), on 09 and 10 December 2025. During his two-day visit, he met with personnel at the Dhobley Main Operating Base, Afmadhow, Beles Qoqani, Tabda and Hoosingo.

Maj Gen Hassan was received by the Colonel Maurice Wasomi of KDF in Dhobley, and later inspected a guard of honour in keeping with military tradition. He received a briefing on the operational situation, ongoing stabilization efforts, and the welfare of the personnel deployed.

Addressing the troops, Maj Gen Hassan conveyed festive greetings from the Chief of the Defence Forces, Gen Charles Kahariri, and the Kenya Army Commander, Lt Gen David Keter. He commended the troops for their commitment to the mission and reaffirmed the Army’s focus on readiness, discipline and the welfare of its soldiers. He added that training, tactics and field craft remain central to mission success, noting that in a dynamic operational environment, sharpening skills on a consistent basis is essential for maintaining an edge over the enemy.

“To win this war, we must continuously bond ourselves with the basic training, tactics, and field craft. These fundamentals are what keep soldiers alive and effective in the battlefield,” he said.

Maj Gen Hassan underscored the importance of welfare systems within the military, stressing that soldiers must support one another and seek assistance whenever needed. He encouraged troops to openly ask for guidance on personal, financial, or psychological issues, reminding them that maintaining healthy standards of living contributes directly to operational performance and effectiveness.
