Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, on 18 September 2025, chaired the 41st Central Council Consultative Committee Meeting in Nairobi, a high-level meeting that brought together Chiefs of Defence Forces, Defence Liaison Officers, senior military officers, and delegations from all eight EAC partner states to deliberate on regional security cooperation and interoperability.
The convention, held under the EAC Defence Sector Calendar of Activities 2025, focused on strengthening joint security efforts, addressing emerging threats, and enhancing regional defence industries.
It also adopted recommendations from the Defence Experts Working Group (DEWG), including the 2026 calendar for joint military exercises and operations.
In his opening remarks, Gen. Kahariri welcomed the delegates and highlighted the importance of collaboration.
“This meeting is a moment to reflect on our progress, assess the challenges, and refine strategies that build a more secure EAC. We are a key link where expert recommendations are harmonised into policies,” he said.
EAC Secretary General Hon. Victoria M. Nduva echoed his sentiments, noting that the convention laid the groundwork for the Sectoral Council on Defence Affairs slated for 19 September 2025
She reaffirmed the Secretariat’s commitment to supporting partner states in tackling security challenges.
“Together, we can build a safer, more secure EAC,” she remarked.
The Nairobi session set the stage for deeper cooperation in defence training, joint operations, and industrial collaboration, with an emphasis on seamless interoperability among EAC forces.
