FAITH, UNITY AND SERVICE: KENYA NAVY MARKS EID WITH PURPOSE

In a powerful expression of faith and togetherness, the Kenya Navy marked Eid with an inspiring Baraza at the Kenya Navy Base Mtongwe Mosque in Mombasa, bringing together officers, service members and their families in a celebration defined by reflection, gratitude and unity.

Held at the close of the holy month of Ramadhan, the gathering went beyond festivity, reinforcing the enduring values of faith, compassion and cohesion within the naval community. The event underscored the Kenya Navy’s commitment to nurturing not only operational readiness but also the spiritual and social well-being of its personnel.

Commander Kenya Navy, Maj Gen Paul Otieno, who presided over the occasion, called on service members to carry forward the lessons of Ramadhan into their daily lives. He emphasized that Eid should serve as a continuation of the discipline, humility and generosity cultivated during the holy month.

“As we mark this Eid, let it not only be a celebration of the end of Ramadhan but a continuation of its lessons where gratitude guides our lives, where kindness shapes our actions and where faith continues to illuminate our path,” he noted, urging families to embrace stronger bonds and a renewed sense of purpose.

The Baraza also highlighted the Kenya Navy’s deliberate efforts to strengthen internal cohesion through inclusive initiatives. Commander Kenya Navy Fleet, Brig Mohamed Shemote, lauded the leadership for sustained support to the Muslim fraternity, citing initiatives such as Iftar programmes, community outreach and charitable engagements that continue to foster unity within and beyond the service.

Echoing these sentiments, Defence Headquarters Principal Imam, Col (Imam) Abdulmalik Rubeya, commended the Navy for prioritizing the spiritual welfare of its personnel, noting that such commitment plays a vital role in strengthening morale, discipline and collective identity across the ranks.

A highlight of the event was the vibrant madrasa presentations by young learners from military families, whose recitations and demonstrations of religious knowledge reflected the importance of instilling strong moral foundations in the next generation. Their performances added a meaningful dimension to the celebration, bridging faith, family and service.

The Baraza concluded with a prize-giving ceremony recognizing the learners’ dedication and excellence, reinforcing the Kenya Navy’s support for holistic development.

Through the Eid celebration, the Kenya Navy reaffirmed that faith and unity remain central pillars of military life—binding service members and their families in shared values that extend beyond duty, and into the very fabric of national service.
