Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) took to the field against the Bilis Qoqani (BQ) community football team in a friendly match at the BQ Ground, turning an afternoon of sport into an opportunity to deepen engagement with the local community.
From the opening whistle, the encounter delivered an energetic display of teamwork, determination and sporting spirit. Both sides competed enthusiastically, exchanging goals in a closely contested match that kept spectators engaged until the final whistle.
The hosts ultimately secured a narrow 4–3 victory, but the significance of the encounter extended well beyond the scoreline. Players shook hands, shared moments of camaraderie and interacted freely with members of the community, underscoring football’s ability to create connections beyond formal engagements.
For KDF personnel serving under AUSSOM, such community-based activities complement the broader security and stabilization mission by creating opportunities to engage local populations in an informal and positive environment.
