On 13 December 2025, the General Officer Commanding Eastern Command (GOC EASTCOM), Major General Luka Kutto, visited Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) personnel deployed in the Elwak and Moyale regions. During the various stopovers, the GOC held interactive barazas with the troops.
In his address, Major General Kutto conveyed warm greetings from the Chief of the Defence Forces (CDF), General Charles Kahariri, and the Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Ketter. He expressed profound gratitude to all personnel for their unwavering commitment and professionalism in the execution of their duties.
The GOC commended the troops for a job well done, noting the KDF leadership’s satisfaction with the significant progress made in pacifying the Area of Responsibility, as well as the exemplary discipline maintained throughout the tour of duty.
He advised soldiers, particularly those approaching retirement, to channel their salaries through the Defence Forces Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (DESSACO) to facilitate a smooth transition from salary to pension upon retirement.
Major General Kutto further expressed satisfaction with the administration of the troops. He reiterated the importance of personnel taking time to be with their families whenever opportunities arise, appreciating their support, and urged all to prioritize family welfare, noting its critical role in sustaining operational effectiveness.
The GOC concluded by wishing all personnel a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
