IMCTC LAUNCHES ADVANCED TRAINING TO STRENGTHEN REGIONAL COUNTER-TERRORISM CAPABILITIES

The Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC) today launched an advanced five-day training program at the Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi. Running from 1–5 December 2025, the program brings together military and security personnel from member states to enhance regional cooperation in combating terrorism financing and other complex security threats.

The event features expert-led sessions, workshops, and scenario-based exercises designed to strengthen both operational and strategic capabilities of participating forces. High-level officials and military leaders from across the coalition are in attendance, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing evolving and sophisticated security challenges.

The opening ceremony was officiated by the chief guest, Deputy Army Commander Major General Mohamed Nur Hassan, who emphasized the significance of regional collaboration in counter-terrorism efforts. He highlighted the increasing complexity of terrorist networks and the urgent need for member states to adopt advanced strategies and intelligence-sharing mechanisms.

Major General Hassan also underscored the importance of capacity-building programs such as this one, noting that such initiatives equip personnel with the skills and knowledge required to protect nations and safeguard regional stability.

During the event, Saudi Arabia’s Abdullahi A. Almoudifer, Head of the Counter Terrorism Financing Department, delivered an opening address stressing the critical role of financial intelligence in countering terrorism. He called on member states to enhance monitoring of illicit financial flows, improve intelligence-sharing, and adopt coordinated strategies to disrupt funding networks that support terrorist activities.

The advanced training program covers key areas including the identification of terrorism financing networks, counter-intelligence strategies, and best practices for inter-agency cooperation. Participants will also engage in discussions on emerging threats and sophisticated response mechanisms.
