Kenya was among countries represented at the Women, Peace and Security Chiefs of Defence Executive Committee Meeting held on 23rd October 2025 at the Mckee Barracks in Dublin, Ireland. Maj Gen J. C. Sitienei, accompanied by Col A. D. Kofa, represented the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen C. M. Kahariri, at the high-level meeting hosted by the Irish Defence Forces. Kenya’s Chief of the Defence Forces is currently the Vice Chair of the Executive Committee.
The meeting brought together Defence representatives from member countries, including the Philippines and Jamaica, to review progress and share national experiences in implementing the WPS agenda. Discussions focused on national contributions to WPS best practices, the formulation of a joint statement on global WPS priorities, and strategies to increase women’s participation in military service.
Member states also exchanged insights on successful recruitment and retention campaigns aimed at strengthening gender inclusivity within the defence forces. A virtual session was convened in the afternoon to enable participation by countries not on the Executive Committee, allowing for a wider exchange of perspectives and experiences.
On 24th October 2025 at the Cathal Brugha Barracks, the event was concluded with a ceremony marking the 25th Anniversary of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000), a landmark resolution on women’s role in peace and security. The occasion also featured the official launch of the Irish Defence Forces Action Plan 2025–2029, outlining Ireland’s continued commitment to advancing the WPS agenda.
While in Dublin, the Kenyan delegation paid a courtesy call on H.E. Amb. Tabu Irina MBS, at the Kenya Embassy, where discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation and Kenya’s ongoing leadership in gender mainstreaming within the security sector.
