Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops serving under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) conducted a Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC) activity and Key Leadership Engagement at Hoosingo Junior School, bringing together community leaders, educators, pupils and residents.
The engagement was attended by local leaders, including the District Officer and village elders, alongside the school administration and teachers. It provided a platform for interaction with pupils on the importance of education, discipline, good character and responsible conduct.
Recognising education as an important foundation for individual and community development, the troops presented books and writing materials to pupils who had excelled in the previous national examinations. The initiative sought to recognise academic achievement while encouraging other learners to remain focused and committed to their studies.
The KDF Imam also conducted a spiritual and mentorship session with the pupils, emphasising good morals, positive values and responsible behaviour. The session reinforced the importance of character development alongside academic achievement in preparing young people to become responsible members of society.
Beyond education and mentorship, the engagement incorporated a medical outreach programme, during which KDF medical personnel provided healthcare services to residents of Hoosingo and surrounding areas. The outreach enhanced access to essential medical assistance while providing an opportunity for personnel to interact directly with the community.
By combining education support, mentorship, healthcare and engagement with local leadership, the initiative strengthened interaction between KDF troops and the communities they serve.
The activity underscored the broader role of CIMIC engagements in complementing AUSSOM’s stabilisation efforts by addressing community needs, fostering cooperation and strengthening relationships that contribute to lasting peace and stability.
