Capacity building and mentorship of local forces are vital to supporting Somalia in achieving long-term stability, security, and peace. This is achieved by strengthening skills, operational capabilities, and professionalism of the Somalia Security Forces (SSF), thereby better equipping them to address the ever-evolving security threats independently and effectively.
In furtherance of this goal, Jubaland Minister of Security Maj Gen Yusuf Hussein Osman, alongside AUSSOM Sector II Commander Brig Edward Banda, on 11 Jun 2026, presided over the graduation ceremony of 100 Jubaland Security Forces (JSF) troops at the Kismayo New Airport Main Operating Base.
The four-week Tactical Training Course was designed to enhance the participants’ operational readiness through instruction in weapon handling, improvised explosive device (IED) awareness, battle drills, physical fitness, and Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), among other essential military skills.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony, Jubaland Minister of Security, Maj Gen Yusuf Hussein Osman, congratulated the graduates for their commitment and discipline throughout the training. He emphasized that the skills acquired would strengthen their ability to counter evolving security threats and safeguard the people of Jubaland. The minister also commended the AUSSOM KDF and JSF instructors for their close collaboration in delivering the training and achieving its objectives.
The KDF officers present noted that the course was tailored to address prevailing threats within the theatre. They urged the graduates to apply the knowledge and skills gained with professionalism, integrity, and dedication in their respective units.
Since deployment, the KDF troops serving under AUSSOM I have trained Somali Security Forces (SSF) personnel through various capacity-building programmes, underscoring AUSSOM’s commitment to strengthening local security institutions and enhancing Somalia’s long-term security capabilities.
