US AFRICOM DIRECTOR OF LOGISTICS VISITS LAIKIPIA AIR BASE

On Thursday, 15 May 2025, Brigadier Mohamud S. Farah, Base Commander of Laikipia Air Base (LAB), hosted Brigadier General George Dietrich, Director of Logistics at United States Africa Command (AFRICOM), at LAB in Nanyuki. The visit aimed to explore opportunities for enhanced operational collaboration in the LAB and greater Nanyuki area, including participation in Exercise Justified Accord.

During the visit, Brigadier General Dietrich received a comprehensive briefing from LAB leadership, outlining the base’s history, current capabilities, and potential future areas for deepening joint operational efforts.

Key discussions focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in crisis response planning, optimizing the use of strategic logistical nodes during joint air exercises, and enhancing interoperability. Emphasis was also placed on personnel development through subject matter expert exchanges, ab initio UAV training, and leadership capacity building.

Additionally, the delegation addressed shared logistical challenges, including counterterrorism efforts, infrastructure limitations, and environmental considerations impacting mission effectiveness.

The visit was attended by senior officials from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), US AFRICOM, as well as Kenya-US Liaison Officers and Service Members.
