Lasting peace and stability is built not only through military security operations, but also through empathy, trust, and meaningful support to the host communities. It emphasizes the importance of human connection, cooperation, and shared responsibility in fostering peace, resilience, and long-term stability.
It is within this spirit that Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) troops deployed under the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) at Dhobley Main Operating Base conducted a community outreach and engagement activity at Warsan village, on the outskirts of Dhobley township, Somalia, on 22 May 2026. The initiative aimed to address immediate humanitarian challenges within the community while strengthening relations between AUSSOM-KDF forces and the civilian population.
During the exercise, the troops established a medical camp where residents accessed essential healthcare services. A total of 70 patients, including men, women, children, and the elderly, were treated for common ailments such as the common cold and upper respiratory infections. Five patients were referred to Dhobley Level I Hospital for further medical care. Additionally, the team distributed clean drinking water and food supplies to the residents.
In efforts to foster cohesion, the AUSSOM KDF leadership, held a Key Leadership Engagement session with local elders, where discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between residents and AUSSOM-KDF forces to improve security in the region and support long-term community development efforts.
His sentiments were echoed by Administration Chief, Abdi Adan Gale, who commended the ongoing partnership between the community and AUSSOM-KDF troops, noting that improved cooperation had contributed to the peace and stability witnessed in the area. He urged residents to actively participate in peace-building efforts aimed at preventing the resurgence of extremist activities.
