Culture is the heartbeat of a nation, preserving its identity, inspiring patriotism, and strengthening the bonds that unite its people. By embracing Kenya’s rich cultural heritage, educational institutions play a vital role in nurturing responsible citizens who value diversity, promote national cohesion, and contribute to a peaceful and prosperous nation.
In line with this vision, Moi Air Base Primary School hosted the third edition of its annual Cultural Day under the theme “Kikwetu as One.” The event brought together learners, parents, teachers, and invited guests in a vibrant celebration of Kenya’s cultural diversity through traditional dances, folk songs, indigenous attire, cultural artefacts, and traditional cuisines.
The Deputy Base Commander Moi Air Base, Colonel Pascal Heya, represented the Base Commander during the celebrations. He was received by the Headteacher, Mrs. Pauline Njoroge, members of the Board of Management, teaching staff, and the Parents Association before touring the cultural exhibition stands.
Addressing the gathering, Colonel Heya commended the school for organizing an event that celebrated Kenya’s cultural diversity while reinforcing national unity and patriotism.
“Kenya’s diversity is our strength. By learning, appreciating, and celebrating our different cultures, we nurture a generation that values unity, mutual respect, and peaceful coexistence. Such initiatives help preserve our rich cultural heritage while shaping responsible and patriotic citizens,” he said.
He also applauded teachers and parents for supporting holistic education, noting that cultural activities help learners develop confidence, teamwork, leadership, communication skills, and a deeper appreciation of the nation’s heritage.
The Headteacher, Mrs. Pauline Njoroge, thanked Moi Air Base, parents, and education stakeholders for their continued support, noting that the theme “Kikwetu as One” reminds learners that despite Kenya’s diverse ethnic communities, languages, and traditions, the country remains united by one national identity.
Learners entertained guests with colourful cultural performances and exhibitions showcasing traditional foods, household items, ornaments, farming tools, and attire from communities across Kenya.
The celebration reaffirmed Moi Air Base Primary School’s commitment to promoting national cohesion, preserving Kenya’s cultural heritage, and nurturing a generation that embraces diversity, unity, and patriotism.
