JCSC HOSTS LT GENERAL (RTD) MWANIKI FOR A LECTURE OF OPPORTUNITY

The Joint Command and Staff College (JCSC) Karen today hosted Lt General (Rtd) Njuki Mwaniki, who delivered a lecture titled “ *Constitutional Patriotism: Loyalty to the Constitution as the Foundation of Kenyaness* ” to participants of Kenya Defence Forces in Course 41-2025/26.

General (Rtd) Mwaniki, a distinguished former Commandant of the National Defence College and former Commander of the Kenya Army, shared deep perspectives drawn from his vast experience in military leadership. The lecture was attended by the Commandant of the Joint Command and Staff College, Major General Eric Kinuthia, Deputy Commandant/Chief Instructor Brigadier David Chesire and other senior members of the College leadership.

In his address, Lt General (Rtd) Mwaniki emphasized the core tenets of the Constitution of Kenya, particularly national identity, justice, unity in diversity and loyalty to shared national principles. He provided participants with a strategic historical overview of Kenya’s journey, highlighting the foundations that shaped the current Constitution. The Lt General also underscored the critical role of middle level commanders in internalizing these constitutional values and their duty to inspire patriotism, loyalty and understanding among their subordinates and the wider public.

The lecture concluded with an interactive Question and Answer session, during which participants engaged the retired General on various aspects of constitutional loyalty and its application in military service.
