KDF AND ZIMBABWE DEFENCE FORCES STRENGTHEN STRATEGIC COOPERATION THROUGH BENCHMARKING VISIT

The Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces in charge of Operations, Doctrine and Training (ACDF OPD&T), Major General Frederick Leuria, hosted a delegation from the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) led by Air Commodore Kadenga at the Defence Headquarters, Nairobi.

The two-day benchmarking visit aimed to enhance collaboration in defence strategy, policy formulation, and planning, as part of ongoing efforts to promote professional exchange and strengthen bilateral military relations between the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and the ZDF.

Major General Leuria emphasized that the Operations, Training, and Doctrine Branch serves as a vital link between the Ministry of Defence, allied forces, and development partners. He noted that the Strategic Policy and Planning (SP&P) office is responsible for developing and updating KDF’s defence frameworks in line with national and regional security priorities.

“This engagement provides a valuable platform to exchange knowledge and best practices in policy formulation, strategic planning, and defence management,” said Major General Leuria. “Our partnership continues to strengthen mutual understanding and enhance strategic capability within our respective defence forces.”

Air Commodore Kadenga expressed appreciation for KDF’s warm hospitality, describing the visit as a meaningful opportunity to learn from KDF’s policy and operational models. He noted that the ZDF delegation gained useful insights into Kenya’s approaches to national disaster preparedness, cybersecurity, and contemporary defence planning.

During the visit, the delegation toured the Uhuru Gardens National Monument and Museum (UGNM&M), where they paid tribute to Kenya’s fallen heroes and explored the nation’s rich history.

The visit underscored the shared commitment of Kenya and Zimbabwe to advancing defence diplomacy, deepening strategic cooperation, and fostering peace and stability across the African continent.
