Armed Forces Cross Country Championship

The 30 th edition of the Armed Forces Cross Country Championship was held on Saturday Jan 23 rd 2010 at Kahawa Garrison. Ten adequately prepared teams from different units were presented at the event.

The Championships was preceded by a 15 km Road race which was open to the public, the results were as followed:

The cross country kicked off with the 8km Senior women category which was flagged off by the Army Commander, Lt Gen Tuwei at 10:20 am. On the start list were Kenya 's renowned athletes like Peninah Arusei, Mercy Kosgei, Sally Barsesio, Kathryn Kwamboka among others.

Cpl Chenonge Innes (Moi Air Base) immerged the winner in the hotly contested race with 27:13.1 minutes. Former World Champion, Veronica Nyaruai was fifth with 27:52.8

The team selected at Kahawa will represent Kenya Armed Forces at the National Cross Country Championships to be held on 20 th February this year.

This year's championships, the first in the Armed Forces sports calendar was graced by the Minister of State for Defense Hon Mohammed Yussuf Haji who was the Guest of Honour accompanied by the Chief of General Staff Gen Jeremiah M Kianga, .

Other guests present were the PS Ministry of State for Defense Amb. Nancy Kirui, the Army Commander LT Gen J.K Tuwei, Air Force Commander Maj Gen H M Tangai, Maj Gen S.J Mwathethe amongst other senior officials. Pictorials
